Working with lawyers
Lawyers dealing with high value real estate transactions will, from time to time, encounter complex VAT issues that fall beyond their own knowledge or experience.
Commercial property transactions can involve VAT exemption for land and buildings, the option to tax and/or various provisions that can lead to the dis-application of the option to tax or trigger the capital goods scheme.
The sums involved can make this daunting as well as confusing.
How I can help
If you are a lawyer, I can help you navigate these and other tricky VAT waters, as my case studies demonstrate.
I have assisted a number of legal practices dealing with disabled trusts in interpreting the VAT reliefs relating to modifications to a disabled person’s home, and directly assisted a nursing home with similar issues.
Litigation lawyers with disputes relating to negligent VAT advice have sought my help. And I have assisted other lawyers who have encountered problems with VAT and cross-border issues.
VAT and commercial property seminars
I run seminars for commercial property law teams, at their offices. These focus on genuine case studies I have worked on and cover issues such as the option to tax, the capital goods scheme, and TOGCs.
I have also presented at seminars run by what is now known as Knights Legal Network, which works closely with law firms, many specialising in property work.
If your legal practice needs assistance with any VAT issue on behalf of a client, or if you are interested in hosting or attending a seminar, please get in touch.
